Golden Gate Park’s historic Bandshell in between the de Young and California Academy of Sciences is now closed for structural renovations until 2024.

The Golden Gate Bandshell façade will undergo minor repairs and maintenance work this winter to get it ready for the 2024 season. Please note that there will be intermittent closures in and around the bandshell to accommodate work. We look forward to rocking out in 2024 with a fresh look for our bandshell.

The 122-year-old Golden Gate Bandshell is the oldest structure in Golden Gate Park’s Music Concourse, an open-air plaza built for the California Midwinter International Exposition of 1894. Also called the Spreckels Temple of Music, the Bandshell was a gift to San Franciscans from sugar magnate Claus Spreckels. In recent years, the Golden Gate Bandshell was upgraded with a new stage, built-in theatrical lighting, and a state-of-the-art Meyer sound system. The Golden Gate Bandshell has since hosted nearly 200 free shows.
