Bring a blanket (and an instrument if you like) or just kick back and watch some of the Bay Area’s top bluegrass, country and folk performers as they get together for an impromptu concert jam.

Pickin’ Picnic in Golden Gate Park
Saturday, May 10, 2014 | Noon to 6 pm
Dahlia Picnic Area, Golden Gate Park
FREE

Bring your own food to put on the grill or bring your own picnic. And typically there is a super-limited free BBQ of burgers and dogs(while supplies last, so arrive early and don’t be a jerk and hoard food. Be respectful and if there’s a donation jar, make sure to add to it.)

For anyone who is looking to learn more about bluegrass music, get out and pick in beautiful Golden Gate Park, or make some new friends, this is a chance to have a good time and learn more about the California Bluegrass Association. Anyone who joins the CBA or renews their membership is eligible to enter a free drawing to win a pair of tickets to the four-day Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival in Grass Valley ($300 value).

The Dahlia Dell Picnic Area is near the statue of President Garfield on JFK Drive. Look for signs directing you to the Bluegrass Pickin’ Picnic and keep your ear cocked for the sound of banjos, fiddles, and guitars, along with various high lonesome vocal stylings. There’s plenty of room to spread out and have several jams, weather permitting.
