China’s Biggest Hot Pot Chain “Haidilao” is Coming to Daly City

Haidilao brings build-your-own-hotpot, secret phrases, and tableside noodle shows to Serramonte Mall

The Peninsula is getting a major new spot for hot pot. Haidilao, the largest hot pot chain in China, is opening its first Peninsula location inside Daly City’s Serramonte Center.

The restaurant is known not just for its build-your-own hot pot experience and ultra-efficient service, but also for a quirky secret menu of sorts—mention the right phrases to your server and you might score freebies like fruit platters, hair ties, or noodle dance performances.

It’ll move into a 7,156-square-foot space formerly home to Shoe Palace and LensCrafters, right next to 85°C Bakery and Lids. This will be Haidilao’s third Bay Area location, joining Fremont and Cupertino (the latter is temporarily closed for maintenance).

Serramonte has been quietly transforming into a go-to spot for Asian food, repurposing old retail spaces into dining destinations. Korean supermarket Jagalchi replaced JCPenney, Marufuku Ramen is moving into Kids Foot Locker, and dim sum favorite Koi Palace is set to take over the old Wet Seal.

Globally, Haidilao has over 1,300 locations since launching in China in 1994, with 13 now in the U.S.  There’s no official opening date for the Daly City location yet—stay tuned.

Bay Area locations:

  • Cupertino: 19409 Stevens Creek Blvd, Suite 100.
  • Fremont: 43349 Boscell Rd.
  • Daly City: The new location will be in the Serramonte Center.
