The retailer will downsize to smaller location in the former Nordstrom Rack space on 9th Street

Thanks to SF Gate for sharing the news that The Container Store is planning to shut its Union Square store located at 29 4th Street.

The Container Store isn’t leaving The City though; the store is downsizing its footprint in the city. They’re closing their 30,000 square-feet, two-story store near Market Street and reopening at 555 9th Street in the former Nordstrom Rack space, which is 22,389 square feet.

A closing date for the Union Square store has not yet been announced. Unfortunately, it’s another loss for Union Square which has been struggling since the onset of the pandemic with increased crime and multiple closures from other large retailers including Gap, Crate & Barrel and DSW.
