East Bay Roller Rink Will Remain Open, Reversing Planned Closure
San Ramon’s The Golden Skate, one of the last remaining roller rinks in the Bay Area, was set to close on July 31, 2022, but after an outpouring of support, the 47-year old roller rink has decided to stay open, provided the support continues.
The Golden Skate announced:
“The over-whelming response from our local patrons, Bay Area adult skaters and our local leaders and friends has caused us to reconsider closing The Golden Skate at this juncture. Our staff has dedicated themselves to staying and enjoying the joy and happiness of so many young and old people visiting our rink on a regular basis. We will not cease operation at the end of this month and instead plan to remain open through at least the end of 2022. Thanks to the KTVU for sharing additional details. Owner Dr. Hassan Sharifi bought the roller rink in 1995 when it was on the verge of closing. He spent years reviving the business, but sadly, the toll from the pandemic was too much to sustain the business. Sharif has now said he intends to keep the rink open until he finds a developer to build a proposed 47 townhouse development or finds a buyer who will keep the roller rink open.
