Happy Birthday to the city of San Francisco! San Francisco was incorporated on April 15, 1850.

Now, San Franciscans celebrate #415 Day on April 15th every year which is not only our city’s area code, but also the day when San Francisco officially became a city.

New for 2023: San Francisco’s 415 Day Pub Crawl! To celebrate the SF’s birthday join an epic Polk Street pub crawl thrown by CrawlSF and Funcheap w/ $3, $4 and $5 drink specials at some of the city’s favorite bars. Saturday, April 15, 2023 (4-10p) – Get exclusive $2 off Tickets

And yes, San Francisco does have two “birthdays.” San Francisco was founded on June 29, 1776, when colonists from Spain established Presidio of San Francisco at the Golden Gate and Mission San Francisco de Asís a few miles away, all named for St. Francis of Assisi. And let’s also acknowledge that we occupy the unceded Ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone peoples, who are the original inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula.

Learn more specifically about how #415 Day was coined and its origins which was initiated by long time residents against gentrification. They held a Solidarity Forever celebration in Dolores Park on 4/15/16.
