No Mask In Santa Clara County? You Could Be Fined $500

Santa Clara County joins Napa, Marin, Sonoma, San Mateo and Contra Costa in fining for face mask violations

Thanks to San Jose Spotlight for letting us know that Santa Clara County is voting on whether or not the county can levy fines up to $500 for face mask violations.

The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on Tuesday to follow the lead of other Bay Area counties and allow the county to impose citations and fines for violating health code regulations. The enforcement proposal goes into effect immediately.

Individuals could be fined $25 to $500 and businesses could face penalties ranging from $250 to $5,000 depending on the severity of the violation and repeat offenses.

One unique aspect of the Santa Clara County proposal would be a grace period of 24-72 hours to allow people facing fines to “correct” the violation.
