Thanks to SF Gate for sharing the news that in a rare move Nordstrom Rack will close its San Francisco store in SoMa at 555 Ninth St. The 42,000-square-foot store Nordstrom Rack opened in 2001, and shared the shopping plaza with Trader Joe’s and Bed Bath & Beyond.

The decision to close the store is unusual. Only 9 Nordstrom Rack stores have closed since 1995, yet in the same time frame, they’ve opened 245 locations. Thankfully, the company aims to retain its employees and offer them placement at other positions within the company.

There’s still a Nordstrom Rack nearby in downtown San Francisco at 901 Market St, San Francisco.
