Saturday is SF’s biggest sand castle contest

Northern California’s largest sandcastle building event, the 31st annual Leap Sandcastle Contest is a spirited competition between teams of architects, engineers, contractors, designers and local elementary school students at Ocean Beach (just below the Cliff House).

There’s also a community castle for everyone to join in to build.

The 2014 theme is “Food, Glorious Food!”

2014 Schedule (subject to change)

  • 10:30 am: Sandcastle building begins
  • 11:00 am – 2:30 pm: Raffle prizes awarded
  • 11:30 am: Judges arrive
  • 2:30 pm: Sandcastle building finishes
  • 2:30 pm: Team Photos at Team Sites with finished sculptures.
  • 2:30 – 3:30 pm: Judges deliberate
  • 3:30 pm: Awards ceremony
  • 4:30 pm: Event Ends

Top awards include: Best in Show, Silver and Bronze; Best Participation of Leap Kids; Best Site Sign; Best T-shirt; and Highest Fundraising Team.
