Palace of Fine Arts Swan “Blue Boy” Has Died
Sadly the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department just shared the news that unfortunately Blue Boy, one of the two beloved Palace of Fine Arts swans, has passed away.
The 17 year old swan was being treated at SF Zoo’s veterinary hospital for possible zinc and lead poisoning. He was found unresponsive in the morning, and the Zoo was unable to revive him. His partner Blanche is also being treated, but thankfully she is responding well to the treatment. They hope to move her back home to the Palace of Fine Arts soon.
An investigation is still underway to determine the cause of the zinc and lead found in the swans.

@sfzoo veterinarians continue to investigate the cause of his death, as well as the source of the zinc & lead in both swans. We are awaiting laboratory results for the necropsy & the soil in their habitat. We hope to have answers soon, so we can bring Blanche home to the Palace.
