San Francisco’s 4th of July Fireworks Show
Witness the skies sparkle red, white and blue with San Francisco Fireworks on July 4, 2017.
At approximately 9:30 pm, visitors will be treated to SF’s spectacular fireworks display over the Bay launched from just north of Fisherman’s Wharf. There are two launch spots – One off of Pier 41, and the other just off of Aquatic Park. Fisherman’s Wharf will be in the middle of the two displays.

Getting To and From the Fireworks
Caltrain – Extra Late Night Southbound Trains | 2017
Caltrain will operate on a Sunday schedule on the Fourth of July and will provide extra capacity after the fireworks ceremony. Special post-fireworks trains will operate from San Francisco to San Jose making all weekend local stops. The last southbound train special will depart at 11:45 pm – or when full – so don’t dawdle.
Alcohol reminder: Open alcoholic beverages are prohibited on trains departing San Francisco beginning at 9pm on special event evenings. But looking at that with a “glass half full” perspective, that means that open alcoholic beverages are allowed on trains before 9pm. Woo hoo! Just don’t be a drunk jerk on the train. Muni | 2017
Getting ThereBefore the show, from 2 to 8:30 p.m., Muni will have extra service to connect people from the Muni Metro Subway, BART, Ferries and Caltrain to both viewing areas.
- Along Van Ness Avenue, from Market Street to the Aquatic Park viewing area.
- Along The Embarcadero, from the Caltrain Station to the Pier 39 viewing area.
Muni will also increase service for the 25 Treasure Island and 28 19th Ave routes with buses running every 10 minutes and the L Taraval will have two-car trains all day.
Getting Back
After the show, from 9 to 11:30 p.m., Muni will have three shuttles providing Express Service to Civic Center Station, the Ferry Building and Caltrain. These buses will use transit-only lanes to avoid traffic wherever possible. View Muni Express Map

BART – Sunday Schedule, But Longer Trains | 2017
BART will be running on a Sunday schedule (opening at 8am and providing a three route service unlike the five they run on Saturday) but with longer trains and some extra event trains that evening.

Free Cab Rides Home | 2017

Take any cab to a safe area (i.e. home) from 5pm to 10am the next morning (it can’t be used for bar hopping) – and they’ll reimburse you for making the smart choice and not drinking and driving. - Enforced – Parking meters, posted time limit zones and seven day street sweeping will be enforced citywide on the holiday. We know this sucks.
- Not Enforced – Commuter tow away, residential parking permits and Monday-Friday daytime street sweeping will not be enforced.
- Meters on Port of San Francisco property, including The Embarcadero and Fisherman’s Wharf, are enforced seven days per week throughout the year, except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
- Hazards are always subject to ticketing and towing.

Check out special exhibits west of the Entrance Plaza from 11am-5pm, followed by a live performance by Tainted Love – The Best of the 80s Live from 5-8pm. The City & County of San Francisco’s fireworks display begins at 9:30pm. All activities and shows are free and open to the public. - Where is the best place to see the fireworks at PIER 39?
The fireworks will be shot off barges located off the end of PIER 39 and the Municipal Pier. If you’re on The PIER, the best place to catch the show is along the perimeter road, toward the Bay End. Please note that there is reserved seating or viewing area. The fireworks show should last around 20 minutes. - What time is PIER 39 open until?
PIER 39 businesses will be open until at least 9:30pm, but some businesses may stay open later. Please contact individual business for more information and to inquire about reservations. - Where should I park?
Parking is available in the PIER 39 Parking Garage, the covered parking structure located directly across the street from The PIER. Special event rate is $10/hour with a $80 daily maximum. Please plan on arriving early, as the parking garage fills up quickly on holidays. - How to I get to PIER 39 on public transportation?
If you’re already in San Francisco, hop on MUNI’s historic E-Line or F-Line street car; the 8, 8X, 39 or 47 bus; or BART.
