SF Businesses Board Up Ahead of Election Night

San Francisco looks like a ghost town again as businesses prepare for chaos, just in case Election night wrecks havoc

In a sight that’s too familiar in 2020, many San Francisco businesses are boarding up their windows in anticipation of potential civil unrest on Election night.

While everyone hopes the election results come in smoothly, preparations are being made to prepare for potential looting and rioting that might occur. SF Chronicle spoke with the Union Square Business Improvement District who noted that they expect up to 75% of stores in Union Square will boarded up before Election Day.

SFGate reported that most of downtown San Francisco is covered in plywood around Market Street, from the Salesforce Tower to San Francisco Centre. Many other cities around the Bay are taking similar precautions, as well as many of the major metropolitan cities across the US.
