Thanks to Eater for sharing the unfortunate news that San Francisco’s iconic Vietnamese restaurant Turtle Tower has closed its last remaining location at 501 6th Street in SoMa.

Since opening in 2000, Turtle Tower Restaurant offered some of the most authentic Northern Vietnamese cuisine in the Bay Area. The cult favorite restaurant sadly closed its doors on November 19, 2023. Its Tenderloin location at 645 Larkin shut its doors back on September 17, 2023. At one point, the popular restaurant had 4 locations across The City including in the Outer Richmond and by SF State.

Turtle Tower became iconic for its legendary bowl of pho ga, or organic free-range Chicken Noodle Soup, made with handmade noodles. It was even included on 7×7 magazine’s The Big Eat SF: 100 Dishes to Try Before You Die in both 2009 and 2010.

Its chef and owner Steven Nghia Pham plans to take a break for now, but hasn’t ruled out partnering up on a new location of Turtle Tower in the future.
