Thanks to SF Gate for sharing the news that San Francisco’s historic Starlight Room is set to reopen.

The glamourous rooftop bar, on top of Beacon Grand, formerly the Sir Francis Drake Hotel, opened during the Prohibition era in 1928. It was the celebrity hotspot of its time with regulars like writer Herb Caen and poet Alan Ginsberg.

In the ’90s through 2011, the bar was called Harry Denton’s Starlight Room where it hosted its popular Sunday drag brunches. The bar reopened as Lizzie’s Starlight in 2019, but its fate was shortlived as it closed during the pandemic.

Now, the bar will reopen as Starlite in February 2024. Its interior has been remodeled plus it will have a cocktail menu from the esteemed Scott Baird of Trick Dog and food by Michelin-starred chef Johnny Spero. For entertainment, you’d hear all-vinyl DJ sets.
