Thanks to Eater San Francisco for sharing the news that Chef Charles Phan from Slanted Door has been busy mastering the perfect banh mi rolls. Now he’s ready, and he’s opening a brand new sandwich shop in the Mission.

His new endeavor, Chuck’s Takeaway, will open in Feburary at 3332 18th Street, on the corner 18th and Capp across from Whiz Burger. His streamlined menu will include a selection of sandwiches on perfecly crisp bread rolls which are fluffy inside, which he notes is missing in San Francisco. He’ll also serve Vietnamese iced coffee.

Don’t fret, his signature restaurant Slanted Door will be back again as well. It’s slated to reopen in fall 2022.

Please note, the image is unfortunately not of Chef Phan’s bahn mi, but we’re excited to see what he has in store when his shop debuts.
