Free Seasonal Cooking Demo & Tasting | Ferry Plaza Farmers Market

This waterfront market, run by the Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture (CUESA), has over 100 food, fruit, and vegetable vendors on Saturdays and the entire Bay as its beautiful backdrop.

The Ferry Plaza Farmers Market operates year-round from 8 am to 2 pm.

On most Saturdays, free cooking demos take place in the CUESA Classroom (under the white tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.

Owner and Chef Michael Siegel knew he wanted to open a restaurant since he was a child learning to cook Sabbath dinners with his mother and grandmother. He began his professional career as a dishwasher and worked his way up. Over the years, he has worked with, and learned from, some of Tucson and San Francisco’s greatest chefs.

He has been going to the San Francisco farmers markets every week, getting to know the amazing people growing our food. Throughout his time working in top restaurants, learning technique and foods from the Mediterranean to Asia, he kept coming back to the food of his family. He wanted to create a Jewish deli where he could share his family’s recipes, utilizing the technique he learned and the fresh ingredients available to us in California.

Shorty Goldstein’s, named for his great grandmother, is an homage to his family’s history, while joining the movement to bring back the Jewish Deli and help to carry it into the future.
