Free de Young Museum Day for Bay Area Residents (Every Saturday)

Every Saturday, the de Young offers free general admission to the permanent galleries to Bay Area residents. Please note that admission to any special exhibits is not included nor discounted and will require the full admission price.

Saturdays feature engaging art experiences for the entire family, including art-making, gallery guides, and tours with discussion and sketching in the permanent galleries.

– Timed ticket reservations typically from 9:30a to 4:30p
Reserve tickets in advance to skip the line – timed tickets required. Limited in person tickets might be available at the membership desk

  • For: Residents of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma Counties with valid photo ID or postmarked envelope bearing home address

Visitors ages 17 and under always receive free admission to the permanent collection galleries.

As part of their Free Saturdays celebration of the exhibition, Soul of a Nation, de Young Museum presents two special events:

Interactive Cut and Sew Workshop with Julian Prince Dash
12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Wilsey Court

No sewing skills? No problem—create your own tote bag and watch it get sewn together before your very eyes with social practice artist and clothing designer, Julian Prince Dash. Dash will bring your custom design to life as he leads you through this interactive workshop. Open to all ages.

A Master Class in Mural History with Jim Prigoff
2:00 pm – 3:30 pm at Koret Auditorium.

Jim Prigoff is considered a living legend among spray can artists and public art activists across the globe. He spent the last 50 years taking countless photographs of and writing books on the art form. Don’t miss your chance to learn the history of murals from the expert on public art. After the presentation, channel your love for murals into the 20 mural light projections located in the exhibition, “Soul of a Nation”.
