San Jose’s 2023 “Starlight Cinema” Free Outdoor Movie Night (July 1-Aug 5)

Starlight Cinemas in San Jose return to St. James Park in 2023, for a free outdoor and awesome movie night. All movies begin at dusk in the park.

Typically about an hour before the film are movie-related fun & games.

2023 Update: Join us this season for favorite throwbacks and family-friendly films. Come an hour before dusk for pre-movie activities beginning at 7:30 p.m. on July 1, July 15 and 7 p.m. on July 29 and August 5. Enjoy a fun variety of community partner booths, local vendors and lawn games. Grab food and drinks to go from one of our partner downtown restaurants and stop by for late-night eats and drinks after the movie.

As part of the city’s Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services events in St. James Park this summer, SJDA hosts four Starlight Cinemas movie nights in the one of the city’s most historic parks.

Scaling the Cliffs of Insanity, battling Rodents of Unusual Size, facing torture in the Pit of Despair — The Princess Bride is director Rob Reiner’s comic fantasy of a perpetually kidnapped and rescued princess featuring an all-star cast including Christopher Guest, Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Billy Crystal, Andre the Giant, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Peter Cook, Wallace Shawn, Fred Savage and Peter Falk.

Pre-show: Profess to your true love and watch a fencing demo from The Fencing Center of San Jose. Treatbot, Grilled Cheese Bandits and House of Siam food trucks will be on site for your dining pleasure.
