“Friday Nights at OMCA with Off the Grid” Block Party + DJs (Oakland)

Reconnect with family, friends, and community at OMCA every Friday night – a weekly free outdoor experience with food trucks and music.

These free events provide a gathering place to come together each week, including live music, hands-on activities, Off the Grid food trucks, and the newly-launched Town Fare Sundeck, featuring an outdoor bar and select bar bites from the cafe menu or bring a blanket and lounge in our garden, now open with direct access to Lake Merritt.

This is a great community gathering with access to the gardens and terraces that help turn this event into big block party. Check their website for updates and special events.

How To Get There

  • BART: OMCA is at the corner of Oak and 10th Street and is located one block from the Lake Merritt BART Station.
  • AC Transit: OMCA is accessible by a number of AC Transit bus lines. OMCA is at the corner of Oak and 10th Street. An accessibility ramp is located at the main entrance on Oak Street between 10th and 11th. For more information, visit actransit.org.
  • Free Bike Parking: Free, on-street bike parking is available outside the Oak Street entrance to the Museum. Limited free covered bike parking is available in the OMCA Garage during garage hours, and on Oak Street Plaza, which is on the third level of the Museum, during Museum hours
  • Street Parking: Free street parking of often available.
  • Garage Parking: Event parking is available at the Museum Garage, with a $10 flat fee starting at 5 pm. The Museum garage closes at 9:30 pm (Thu-Sun)

March 17 – Friday Nights At OMCA With Off The Grid Featuring VâN-áNh Vanessa Võ & Ensemble (Live Music); Dj Lady Fingaz

Join us at OMCA as Vân-Ánh Vanessa Võ & her musical ensemble present Mekong: LIFE Work-In-Progress Concert in the James Moore Theater.

A modern interpretation of a traditional myth, Mekong: LIFE explores the push and pull between human and natural life and what the future holds for the next generation using traditional instruments from Southeast Asia, graphic global warming data, electronic music, live-media, and a Cambodian myth about natural cycles.

Enjoy music by DJ Lady Fingaz from 6 to 8 pm.

Join us for a healing music performance by Alexandra the Author in the Amphitheater.

Enjoy an experience of sound vibrations and classical storytelling by Alexandra the Author at OMCA. Alexandra uses her love of the arts, awareness of healing, mental health, passion for sound singing and her fire for human rights to pursue her line of work. Her music purposely emotes soothing vibes and power. From finger snaps to piano taps, this artist mixes together soul, R&B, folk, classical piano and hip hop for a healing musical experience.

Following their performance, enjoy music by DJ Durt 7 to 9 pm.

March 31 – Friday Nights At OMCA With Off The Grid | We Are One: A Conversation On Fem Gender Identity; A.B.L.U.N.T. Collective Dj Sessions

Close out Women’s History Month with a conversation on fem gender identity and a DJ lineup curated by the A.B.L.U.N.T Collective at OMCA.

Join us at OMCA to learn from the experiences of women and the projects they invest their energy in. Starting at 5 pm, commune with the panelists in discussion about how women’s efforts uplift other women in their communities and beyond, weaving new patterns to new futures to access resources for all women to empower us in this life.

“We, in our communities, continue to demand equity and safety from the violence of capitalism, white supremacy and patriarchy and when we are not heard, we come together to create our own tapestries of safety.”

Panelists: Shanette, Amelian, Jade, Women’s Freedom Center and Alita (moderator).

Enjoy music by a DJ lineup curated by the A.B.L.U.N.T Collective throughout the night from 5 to 9 pm.
