Every Friday night the de Young Museum hosts a series of free events in the museum’s public spaces.
On May 7th enjoy a jazz tribute to MLK by The Marcus Shelby Jazz Quarter, quilting demonstrations, hands-on art activities, a stencil cutting demonstration and presentation and lecture by Mission Muralismo about the art and science of billboard improvement (aka graffiti).
Mission Muralismo: Pranksters and Preachers, Paste and Stencil
Koret Auditorium – 7:00 p.m.
Stencil Cutting Demonstration by Russell Howze and featured talks by Annice Jacoby, Rigo, and John Jota Leaños; Jack Napier, co-founder, and Milton Rand Kalman, chief scientist, of Billboard Liberation Front give a presentation on “The Art and Science of Billboard Improvement”; plus cultural theorists, film, art, presentations, and music.
