About I Know What’s Best for You
Edited by Shelly Oria—author and editor of Indelible in the Hippocampus—this explosive, intersectional collection of essays, fiction, poems, plays, and more, explores the universality of human reproductive experiences, as well as their distinct individuality.

An enlisted sailor must choose between her military career and keeping an unexpected pregnancy. A mother of three decides to become a surrogate, but is unprepared for everything that happens next. This collection is a collaboration with the Brigid Alliance, a nationwide service that arranges and funds confidential and personal travel support to those seeking abortion care.

About the Readers
Shelly Oria is the author of New York 1, Tel Aviv 0 (FSG 2014) and the editor of Indelible in the Hippocampus: Writings from the MeToo Movement (McSweeney’s 2019). In 2017 CLEAN, a digital novella Oria was commissioned by McSweeney’s and WeTransfer to coauthor, received two Lovie Awards from the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. Oria’s fiction has appeared in The Paris Review and on Selected Shorts at Symphony Space, has received a number of awards, and has been translated to several languages. Oria lives in Brooklyn, New York, where she has a private practice as a life and creativity coach. Her website is www.shellyoria.com

Anisse Gross is an award-winning freelance writer based in San Francisco. Her journalism, criticism, and editorial work has been featured in The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Guardian, The Believer, The San Francisco Chronicle, Lucky Peach, and elsewhere. She is currently shopping around a memoir about ambivalence towards motherhood.

R.O. Kwon’s nationally bestselling novel, The Incendiaries, was named a best book of the year by over forty publications and is being translated into seven languages. Kwon and Garth Greenwell coedited the bestselling anthology Kink,, a New York Times Notable Book.

Caille Millner is the author of The Golden Road: Notes on My Gentrification. Her short fiction has appeared in Zyzzvya, The Southern Review and Best American Short Stories 2016. her essays have appeared in The Sun Magazine, Michigan Quarterly Review, and listed in Best American Essays.

Alia Volz is the author of the bestselling memoir Home Baked: My Mom, Marijuana, and the Stoning of San Francisco, finalist for the 2021 National Book Critics Circle Award and winner of the 2020 Golden Poppy Nonfiction Book Award. Her work appears in The New York Times, The Best Women’s Travel Writing, Bon Appetit, and The Best American Essays.

About The Brigid Alliance
The Brigid Alliance is a referral based service working with independent and nationally affiliated clinics, abortion funds, local and regional practical support organizations, and volunteer groups to help abortion patients who are traveling long distances to reach their appointments. With our partners we are working to ensure access to essential care in increasingly hostile climates, and to fill an unmet need at national scale: together, we are closing the gap between the right to an abortion and the ability to access one.

Our close-knit team is trained to provide compassionate support to individuals seeking later abortion care. We create and cover costs for highly customized travel itineraries for each client, with consideration of distance and local transportation, accommodations, meals, child care, and other associated travel costs like gas, tolls, parking, mobile phones, and more. We provide connectivity and coordination among the many resources and logistics for clients, from the time they leave home to the moment they safely return.

The Brigid Alliance is a crucial part of the reproductive health ecosystem connecting the geographic and metaphorical dots between policy, providers, practice, and patient.
By alleviating the logistical barriers and financial obstacles of access to care, we are ensuring that everyone has the choice protected by Roe v. Wade—no matter where they live.

FAQ
Copies of the book will be made available as close to the event date as possible for store in-store pick up at Green Apple Books on the Park (1231 9th Ave). If you are planning on joining the event virtually and would like your book shipped to you, please include your shipping address in your registration (otherwise we will not know where to send it!)

We cannot ship books outside of the U.S. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Attendees who purchase a ticket which includes a copy of the book and provide a shipping address outside of the U.S. will be refunded in full, or given the option to transfer their ticket to event-only and receive a partial refund.
