Event Details

Join us in learning from the founders of mak-‘amham: Contemporary Ohlone Cuisine as they share their stories and knowledge of Ohlone food and culture. The program will include a cooking demonstration, student-led interview, and interactive discussion about the complexities of decolonization through our diet, revitalization of ancestral knowledge and practices, and ways we can work in solidarity with Ohlone communities whose lands we live on.

Vincent Medina (Chochenyo Ohlone) is Capitán, cultural leader, of ‘Itmay Cultural Association—a group of dedicated Verona Band culture bearers working to keep our identity strong. Louis Trevino is a member of the Rumsen Ohlone community and a leader in the revival of the Rumsen language. Cafe Ohlone will open at the Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology at UC Berkeley in November 2021.

Presented by USF’s Cultural Anthropology, Environmental Studies, Jesuit Foundation, and Thacher Gallery in conjunction with the exhibition, All that you touch: art and ecology.
