Event Details

Join us to celebrate the publication of Leo: A Ghost Story! The author and illustrator will read from the book and then lead kids in making an enormous chalk drawing on the JCCSF’s rooftop basketball court. This echoes events in the book, as Leo – the main character, who just happens to be a ghost – meets his new pal Jane while she’s chalk drawing on the sidewalk.

Come early! JCCSF ECE Music Specialist Isaac Zones will perform at 10:30 am.

Coffee and special treats will be provided.

About the book:
You’d like being friends with Leo. He likes to draw, he makes delicious snacks and most people can’t even see him. Because Leo is also a ghost. When a new family moves into his home and Leo’s efforts to welcome them are misunderstood, Leo decides it’s time to head out and see the world. That’s how Leo meets Jane, a girl with a tremendous imagination, and that’s where their adventures begin.

About the book’s creators:
Author Mac Barnett is also author of the Caldecott Honor-winning Extra Yam, while illustrator Christian Robinson won the Bologna Ragazzi Wars for Josephine. Paired up, the two are a picture book force to be reckoned with.

“Together, words and pictures construct a whimsical, delightful story that deeply respects the child. And in Jane, they create a brilliant heroine whose powers lie within her wit, her open mind, and her freedom of play. Dazzling.”
