Event Details

For Muni’s 100th Birthday Celebration, view and ride along on vintage muni cars and learn about their history from docents on board.

During the Muni Centennial Streetcar Festival, November 4-11, 2012, vintage streetcars, cable cars, buses and trolley coaches will take to city streets, including many that have been restored specifically for the Muni Centennial.

Docents from Market Street Railway will be aboard these vehicles to provide historical perspective.

On the two Sundays of the Festival, rides will begin near the Ferry Building at the Market Street Railway Museum, located at 77 Steuart Street between Market and Mission streets. During the week, vintage streetcars will return to service on the F Line from Fisherman’s Wharf to Castro Street.

Sunday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Vintage streetcars will operate along a portion of Muni’s newest rail line, the T Third. Passengers will only board or offboard at two stops: at the San Francisco Railway Museum stop on Don Chee Way and on King Street between Second and Third streets adjacent to AT&T Park. Streetcars will loop around the new Muni Metro East (MME) facility and return. There will be no stops along Third Street or at MME.

Vintage Muni buses and trolley coaches spanning the last 40 years—currently not in operation—will be on display near the Market Street Railway Museum.

Cable car No.42, originally built in 1907 for the now-defunct O’Farrell, Jones & Hyde Line will operate in revenue service on the California Line.

Please note: Availability of specified vintage vehicles may be subject to change.

Free to view the cars, but regular Muni fares apply for rides.
