Litquake, San Francisco’s Literary Festival runs October 8-24, 2026 with satellite events running from September through January. 170+ events, 600+ authors and performers, all over the Bay Area, and almost ALL for FREE!

Visit litquake.org or see the full schedule and tickets.

And it’s capped by the epic “Lit Crawl” on Saturday, October 24, 2026 – with 50+ authors and close to 5,000 fans for the world’s largest free pop-up literary event.

Litquake, San Francisco’s annual literary festival, was founded by Bay Area writers in order to put on a week-long literary spectacle for book lovers, complete with cutting-edge panels, unique cross-media events, and hundreds of readings. Litquake seeks to foster interest in literature, perpetuate a sense of literary community, and provide a vibrant forum for Bay Area writing as a complement to the city’s music, film, and cultural festivals.

Diverse perspectives on motherhood from writers keeping it real with kids—including fiction, memoir, and comics (projected on screen for live reading). Presented by MUTHA Magazine.

One of the most anticipated literary nights of the year, San Francisco’s Lit Crawl attracts close to 10,000 people, and is the world’s largest such event. In 2008 Lit Crawl NYC launched in Manhattan, also an immediate hit. Austin was next, swarming for the first time in 2011. In 2012, we birthed two more Lit Crawls, one in Brooklyn, another in Seattle. In 2013, we expanded to Los Angeles, Iowa City, and London, and in 2014, a Lit Crawl was launched in Helsinki. Lit Crawl Portland was born in 2015, and this year we welcome Lit Crawl Denver, Boston, Chicago, Cheltenham (UK), and Wellington (New Zealand).
