The Exploratorium invites you to enjoy robust presentations and refreshing conversations designed to inspire your scientific palate. Tonight’s Menu: Grasses.
Ruminate on the richness of grass-based foods and spirits. Chef Loretta Keller digs up the domesticated roots of so-called wild rice and shakes loose the truth of how we get what we get, offering tastings of wild rice grown in the Great Lakes region of Northern Michigan and Minnesota. Clay Reynolds reveals how whiskey is traditionally distilled from corn, wheat, barley, or rye, and refreshes your palate with a sampling of spirits made from classic grasses as well as alternative cereals such as millet, oats, and spelt.
