San Francisco Street Tree Nursery Open House

You are invited to San Francisco Public Works Street Tree Nursery’s Inaugural Community Open House!

Join in this opportunity to learn about the history, environmental, economic and social benefits of San Francisco’s many street trees – and the new Street Tree Nursery, where Public Works landscape crews and nonprofit partner Friends of the Urban Forest are cultivating young trees to be planted throughout San Francisco’s neighborhoods.
Come for the food and fun – and stay for the art and educational opportunities:* Build a planter box and take home an herb to nurture.
* Ride skyward in one of our arborist bucket trucks.
* Test out your solar-powered pizza making skills.
* Check out the enchanting Sarah Chase art exhibit.
* Grab refreshments.
* Mingle with Public Works staff, Friends of the Urban Forest’s New Roots workforce development crews and your South of Market/District 6 neighbors, and more!

There’ll be two nursery tours and you’ll be able to speak firsthand with nursery staff and other Public Works employees about their roles and the history of the nursery site.

What to Expect

* Saturday, Aug. 17, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
* The event kicks off at San Francisco Public Works Street Tree Nursery, located at 415 Fifth Street in the South of Market neighborhood (between Harrison and Bryant streets, a 10-minute walk from Powell BART station with on-street meters and paid public parking available). The nursery has free bicycle parking and is wheelchair accessible.
* Street Tree Nursery Tours at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.

What to Wear/Bring

* Dress in layers
* Wear closed toe shoes
* Bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated
