San Francisco’s Final Day of Summer 2025 (Sept. 21)
All Over San Francisco | San Francisco, CA
Get ready to say goodbye to summer. Sunday, September 21, 2025, is the last official day of summer before we fall into, well… fall. The Autumn Equinox arrives on Monday, September 22 at 5:20 AM PST, marking the official start of fall.
Even though days have been getting shorter since June, we’ve still got a decent stretch of daylight to enjoy—so don’t pack away the picnic blanket just yet.
In San Francisco, the sun rises at 6:56 AM and sets at 7:07 PM, giving us 12 hours, 10 minutes, and 50 seconds of daylight to soak up those final golden rays of summer.
📉 Solar Nerd Alert: The Light Is Fading
-
Nearly 3 Hours Less Sunlight
Compared to the Summer Solstice, we’ve lost about 2 hours and 36 minutes of daylight. On June 20, we had nearly 15 hours of sunshine—now we’re down to just over 12. -
Equal Day & Night Coming Up
The equinox means day and night are nearly equal in length (hence equi-nox). After this, the nights grow longer than the days until the Winter Solstice. -
Earlier Sunsets Are Back
Sunset now falls just after 7 PM—and we’ll drop below the 7 PM mark just two days later on September 23. -
Golden Hour Tip:
For one last glowing moment of summer magic, hit Ocean Beach, Bernal Hill, or Treasure Island around 6:30 PM for peak golden hour.
🍂 What’s Next?
Don’t be too sad—SF’s fall can still feel like summer, thanks to our famous “Second Summer” in September and October. That means more sunny days, street fairs, outdoor movies, and patio weather before the fog rolls back in.
