The San Francisco History Association hosts monthly talks which explore our city’s enchanting history in depth.

Each month, a local history expert hosts a themed talk usually accompanied by a slide show with light refreshments.

SF History Night | Pacific Heights

Due to popular demand, this presentation will take place at a different location from our monthly talks. We will be at Newman Hall, Congregation Sherith Israel: 2266 California (at Webster).

San Francisco native and San Francisco History Association board member Judi Leff will discuss why Jews were attracted to the Bay Area, what they faced in their countries of origin, what they brought to the party, and what they have contributed to the city and environs.

This diversity of styles and opinions plays a key role in the large number of synagogues, temples, and organizations founded and maintained by the Jewish community. The journey will include Washington Bartlett, William Leidesdorff, Emperor Norton, Levi Strauss, and the eleven major related families.

Doors open at 7 p.m. with refreshments; presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. sharp. There is a $5 admission for nonmembers.

Paid parking at CPMC on Webster, one block away, plus a limited amount of street parking.
