SF History Night | Pacific Heights
The San Francisco History Association hosts monthly talks which explore our city’s enchanting history in depth.
Each month, a local history expert hosts a themed talk usually accompanied by a slide show with light refreshments.
The SFFD Museum was founded in 1965 by firefighters who wanted to preserve their department’s history. In addition to what most people would expect to find in a fire museum, like hoses, ladders, and uniforms, the SFFD Museum houses unexpected treasures such as work by famous photographers and objects that are more than two centuries old.
Jamie O’Keefe is a fifth-generation native San Franciscan who has been the museum adviser and curator for Guardians of the City since 2009. She’s also vice president of Western Neighborhoods Project and an organizer for the San Francisco Old Car Picnic (aka Jimmy’s Picnic), the largest and longest-running classic car show of its kind, started in 1988. She works at the Walt Disney Family Museum as a registrar where she gets to touch Walt’s personal items — with gloves, of course!
Doors open at 7 p.m. with refreshments and a historical book sale; presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. sharp. There is a $10 admission for nonmembers. Paid parking at CPMC on Webster, one block away, plus a limited amount of street parking. Muni: 1, 2, 3, 10, 22, 24.
