The grand opening of the southern portion of India Basin Waterfront Park at 900 Innes Ave. takes place on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
As the SF Rec and Park Department unveils the new park space, there will be a lot happening, including:
- Speakers at 11:30 a.m.
- An exhibit at the refurbished city landmark, the Shipwright’s Cottage
- Local vendors at the new food pavilion
- A boat building demonstration by nonprofit Rocking the Boat
- Unveiling the new ground mural “Lady Bayview” by artist Raylene Gorum
- And much more!
What’s particularly special about this project is that it’s one of a few parks in the U.S. built with an Equitable Development Plan, aiming to ensure that Bayview-Hunters Point residents directly benefit from its creation and programming. Notable programing includes a workforce development component and free swimming lessons for neighborhood kids.
As part of the festivities on Oct. 19, the adjacent India Basin Shoreline Park (Hunters Point Boulevard and Hawes Street) will also host Fall Fest, an annual event with a local vendor market, DJ, pumpkin patch, food, art activities, a health zone, and recreational fun for all.
