Sierra Club Christmas Day Hike + Hilltop Gift Exchange (Oakland)

The Arrival of The Three Magi (or Three Wise Men) to Huckleberry Preserve Hike … This is a Hike, and a Holiday Celebration, with a taste of the European country of Spain, its tradition, and folklore during this time of the year.

This is the planned event:

1) The Hike: We will explore the Huckleberry Regional Preserve, a gem, with a great variety of our native tress, and scrubs, and with its magic meandering trails, and micro climates.

2) The Celebration: We will start with singing two Villancicos (Christmas Carols) in Spanish, “Mira como beben los peces en el rio”, and “Noche de Paz, Noche de Amor” (“Holy Night”); by clicking the links below you will be able to see the lyrics, as well as listen to the music, thus you will able to practice if you wish.

3) The Gift Exchange: The Three Magic or Three Wise Men will manifest arriving with a Bag full of small gifts, one for each one of the Participants. BUT, I have been told, that in order to get a gift you need to bring a present, nicely wrapped, new, or used … and drop it in the GIFT BAG.

Then, each participant with the eyes closed will be available to pick his / her own gift.

MEET: At the parking lot of the Huckleberry Botanic Regional Preserve

LEVEL: Moderate

ALTITUDE GAIN: About 600 feet

LENGTH: 5 – 6 miles

BRING: MASK, Trekking Poles, Boots / Hiking Shoes, Water, Snacks, Warm Clothes for the Crispy Morning.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Please bring a small gift, for under $20, new, or used, for the exchange of gifts.

OPTIONAL CARPOOL FROM NORTH BERKELEY BART: Please contact the leader if you need a ride, or can give a ride, Carpool riders must wear a Mask.
