Standard Deviant Brewing to Celebrate Grand Opening
at Pier 70 in San Francisco’s Dogpatch Neighborhood
Where ships were once made and launched into San Francisco Bay, beer is now flowing. Independent brewery Standard Deviant Brewing will toast the grand opening of its newest manufacturing facility and taproom Friday at Pier 70’s Historic Building 12 in the city’s Dogpatch neighborhood by raising a few hundred mugs of their fresh, small batch beer renowned as “The Coldest Tasting in SF.”
“What’s better than Bay views, always great weather and a beer or three with friends at a former shipbuilding site?” said Co-Founder Mark DeVito. “This is an awesome new space where everyone can find a favorite beer and where everyone is welcome.”
The new 6,500 sq. ft. taproom’s industrial setting offers 20+ brews, a 30-foot long bar, and indoor and outdoor picnic tables amid 30-foot high ceilings, bare steel girders and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking San Francisco Bay. There’s an outdoor seating area where, on occasion, a taco truck will be onsite. Current plans are to be open Wednesday-Friday 2pm-9pm and weekends Noon-9pm. The grand opening on Friday, June 6 is 2pm-9pm and open to the public.
DeVito and fellow-founder Paul Duatschek opened their first site at 14th and Mission streets in 2016. “The new site allows us to increase our production and our retail capability, along with tons of space to hold cool events that support causes for people of all backgrounds,” said DeVito.
Standard Deviant made headlines in January with its loyalty program offering customers a chance to lock in low prices of $5 pints, $3 pints or $1 pints, all for life. Their newest brew, Helmet Head Belgian Blonde, joins an expansive menu of Kolsch, Comet Pale Ale, Tree People IPA, Nitro Horchata Cream Ale and lager, hefeweizen, ales, IPAs, porters and more.
The brewers join a growing creative community housed at Building 12 that is the centerpiece of Brookfield Properties 28-acre mixed-use neighborhood emerging along San Francisco’s Central Waterfront. The newly restored football-field-sized historic structure was originally built in 1941 for the World War II shipbuilding effort.
“Standard Deviant is a great fit for the creative community we’re building here — welcoming to all, hyper-creative entrepreneurs and makers, and able to bring new audiences to Pier 70,” said Brookfield Properties Vice President of Development Tim Bacon. “Plus, their beer is incredible.”
Today, Building 12 is home to more than a dozen makers, food purveyors and innovators. Acclaimed baker Breadbelly is scheduled to open this summer. Already onsite are SVEN Ceramics, design studio Prowl Studio, custom sneaker designer Studio Duskus, paper artist Zai Divecha, metalsmith and maker Emi Grannis, and florist Marbled Mint. Also there are Scuderia, a 30-year legacy San Francisco business and alternative motorcycle dealer, popular indoor padel and pickleball club Bay Padel, and venture capital firm Monograph Capital. Arts and education nonprofit The Plenary, Co., also plans to open later this year.
At the Pier 70 historic district, construction is underway on a new 28-acre neighborhood adjacent to the Dogpatch neighborhood that will include housing, offices, parks, and space for artists and local manufacturing, and rehabilitated historic buildings.
