Exploratorium Lab & Lunch | Pier 15
Join NOAA archivist John Cloud and archaeologist Jim Delgado to hear how early maps guide today’s underwater archaeological investigations. Using archival records, archaeologists have excavated buried ships, plotted the locations of waterfront landmarks, and explored sunken shipwrecks.
Their latest discovery earlier this year was the 1888 wreck of the City of Chester, buried in the mud beneath the Golden Gate Bridge.
John Cloud, is a historian and geographer at the Central Library of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
Jim Delgado, director of maritime heritage for NOAA’s National Marine Sanctuaries program has led or participated in shipwreck expeditions around the world.
