Sunday Assembly: Communty Sing & Meetup | Berkeley
Sunday Assembly is a non-religious congregation that celebrates life. They’ve got the best parts of a church – community, singing, and acts of service – without any of the religious dogma.
They typically meet on the third Sunday of the month to sing, think, listen, laugh, and build community together. They feature speakers from the local science and humanities communities, and they typically offer a way to donate to a local organization.
The Sunday Assembly is a godless congregation started in 2012 by two comedians and performers in England. It is a growing global network of people with the motto to “Live Better. Help Often. Wonder More.”

Their speaker will be Michael Frederickson speaking on the Emotion of Awe.Anger, Fear, Disgust, Sadness, Joy – these emotions fill our daily lives, and it’s quite easy to imagine why each contributes significantly to our survival. What about the uniquely ephemeral emotion of “awe”? When and why do we experience it, why might evolution have selected for it, and how might we evoke it to tell better stories, or to be better listeners?Michael Frederickson is a technical director for Pixar Animation Studios. He works on creating spectacle and magic of all kinds, from installations at Burning Man to artist driven procedural visuals, music, and writing.
