Event Details

This exhibition shows the artist’s reflections of being in and amongst forests over the past two decades, up-close with nature and relaying through art these feelings.

Wilderness is experienced on an individual level, it is deeply personal, sharing a quiet moment with nature. Being in nature is a different experience that most of society does not see on a day-to-day basis. However, we depend upon nature for our well-being. Forests play key roles not only in carbon sequestration, habitat for animals and formation of atmospheric rivers, but also provide for places of solace.

There are many types of forests each with their own species and terrain, though all share common traits, and points to appreciate. We may see the art of nature, the play of light, the myriad of tones, stimulating our minds, exciting our imagination.

Wilderness exists in a delicate balance and is increasingly becoming scarce due to human activities such as logging, industrial scale agriculture and urbanization. We need to take affirmative, and durable action to ensure that wilderness is not only allowed to remain but also flourish.

Through this exhibit the public is encouraged to visit wild places and engender a desire to protect these wild places through legislation and grassroots advocacy.

An art book based on the subject is also in prepublication.
