Event Details

SF History Night | Pacific Heights

The San Francisco History Association hosts monthly talks which explore our city’s enchanting history in depth.

Each month, a local history expert hosts a themed talk usually accompanied by a slide show with light refreshments.

Neighborhood Newspapers of San Francisco, a project of the San Francisco Department of Memory, digitally preserves and promotes San Francisco community newspapers, preserving aging—often fragile—artifacts of neighborhood history and making them freely and widely accessible.

More than 1,600 issues generated in eight neighborhoods dating back to the 1960s are available online, hosted by the Internet Archive. The topics found in the papers reflect a changing landscape, connect us to how our neighborhoods have developed, and can help us piece together the significance of centers of civic life.

This project came together as a collaborative community effort, and select members of participating history groups will present the origin and highlights of the collection along with digitization project manager LisaRuth Elliott.
