Carnivàle Pataphysique | SF

You are invited to a four day carnivale in San Francisco, beginning on the death day of pataphysics creator Alfred Jarry and featuring the launch of a new book on pataphysics from November 1-4, 2012.

Pataphysics is a philosophy created by French writer Alfred Jarry who  defined ‘pataphysics as “the science of imaginary solutions, which symbolically attributes the properties of objects, described by their virtuality, to their lineaments.”

Absurdism, Gothic Decor & Absinthe | Carnivàle Pataphysique | SF

At a secret location at 8:00pm you can join Ubu’s Cave: Alfred Jarry’s Parisian Apartments Revisited.

Based on Jarry’s three most famous dwellings, this event includes gothic decorations, dangling bicycles, absurdly low ceilings and absinthe is available throughout the evening. Attendance by invitation only (invitations are free and shall be made available to the public on a first come first serrved basis at the front counter of City Lights Bookstore).

The program features music from the Cloud Shepherd ensemble and a shadow puppet performance by Janaki Ranpura, inspired by Ubu Roi. Neil Salley shall unveil a pataphysical device from Musée Patamécanique. A late night séance shall follow for the devoted.
