Hear the story of the giant crane at Hunters Point Shipyard at a free history talk by historian Stacey Carter at the Shipyard Gallery. The huge gantry crane has towered over the Shipyard since the 1940s and remains one of the most striking landmarks on San Francisco’s southeastern waterfront.
The talk is part of the “Hometown Heroes” Shipyard Stories coloring book series. The book, created by artist William Rhodes with historian Stacey Carter, turns community stories from Bayview-Hunters Point into hand-drawn illustrations that kids and families can color.
Coloring pages from the book will be available to color at the event. All ages welcome. Free with RSVP.
This event will be followed by an illumination of the giant gantry crane in October 2026.
