The Candlelit Labyrinth

A one-night-only candlelight celebration at Baker Beach where Burning Man was born

In celebration of the rare occurrence of Hanukkah and Thanksgiving falling on the same day, a local group of artists who call themselves the Museum of Joy will be building a temporary pop-up art installation, a candlelit labyrinth on the northern half of Baker Beach where Burning Man began.

Come walk the labyrinth, see the sun go down in splendid flames, and give thanks for whatever it is that keeps your light burning through the long dark.

Bring an object of significance to place on the center of the altar (you can retrieve it whenever you like – don’t leave it behind), listen to impromptu music performances inspiring the labyrinth-walkers on their journey.

  • Sunset is at 4:15pm – arrive early to share it with someone special.
  • Bring an object of significance to place on the central altar. (Don’t worry, you can have it back later.)
    Why? Because winter is coming, dammit, and if we all make some rough attempt to walk with grace or thoughtfulness or gratitude or glee though a mystical symbol of the complexity of the universe all on fire with light and beauty, maybe the sun will come back to us one day.
  • Come dressed & draped entirely in a color of your choosing, reflecting your intention for your walk through the labyrinth. White is encouraged, especially because it looks great by candlelight, but feel free to come in red or green or incandescent purple if your intention is to remind yourself of how eye-poppingly spectacular you are.
  • The bringing of is music/art/friends/menorahs/truffled turkeys/unicorns is strongly encouraged.

Getting there:
– Driving: There’s usually plenty of parking, – but carpool if you can. If you have space in your ride, post it at https://www.facebook.com/events/549525691795316/
– Muni: It’s slow going, but the 29 Sunset bus runs pretty much straight to the beach ’til almost midnight.
