Come see the US debut solo show of Berlin artist Lars Theuerkauff, a series paintings of individual men done in the unique pointillist style.
Lars’ technique is unique, using acrylic on linen, but not a traditional brush. Instead his technique of spattering paint using various tools creates a pointillist effect (popularized by Impressionist Georges Seurat) that from a distance appears to be photorealistic.
The singular figure in Theuerkauff’s oeuvre is a repeated element, which together with the nudeness of the subject, provides a window on the visual vocabulary of intimacy, and examines the link between classical homoeroticism and contemporary art. The subjects force us into a tension-filled position, somewhere between privacy and voyeurism, where we are never certain of what this intimate world might reveal.
Jan. 28 – Opening Reception: with the artist from 5:30 to 7:30.
Feb. 5 – Artist Talk: Lars Theuerkauff will talk about his work, his motivations, and his techniques at 2:30.
