Mission Mural Party
Celebrate the dedication of the Carnaval Mural in the Mission District, featuring a blessing by Aztec dancers, followed by speakers, samba dancers, drummers, tropical music and lowriders. Beverages and food will also be available.
The mural was first painted in 1979 to showcase Carnaval San Francisco. Daniel Galvez, the lead artist, worked with five other artists to create the mural.
The artist used various photos from Carnaval to paint the mural. All the people in the mural are real people. Unfortunately, the mural faded. Many proposals were written to restore the mural, and thankfully, after three years, the mural has finally been restored. It couldn’t have been restored at a better time with all the gentrification that is going on in the Mission. It’s a powerful colorful statement that we are here and we aren’t going away.
