Flying Balls, Ropes, Hula Hoops with dancers suspended on the school yard walls…

Wall Ball will premiere at Sunnyside’s 2011 Spring Festival, and then continue with several performances, free and intended for the general public.

May 21-26, 2011 at various times:

• Saturday, May 21 @ 11 am and 2pm
• Sunday, May 22 @ 2pm and 4 pm
• Monday – Thursday, May 23-26 @ 6pm
• Tuesday and Thursday May 24 and 26 @ 11 am

“Wall Ball/throw yourself in” celebrates the bond between art and sport, while exploring two political realities that affect all public schools. 1. The surge of community activism in the face of funding cuts to school programs; and 2. the larger gender and class issues that continue to exist in sports. Kreiter chose Sunnyside Elementary as the location for her next work for several reasons.
