Event Details

Risen from the ashes of downtown’s closed Comic Relief store comes a brand new comic bookstore: The Escapist.

You’re invited to the late-night The Escapist Opening Party with free drinks, snacks and special guests.

Its staff and inventory escaped unscathed and emboldened to provide you with a new source of geeky, graphic literature in the gothic hills of Claremont. Even the famous Comic Relief cats Ember and Ash have made it their new home after Jack Rems, owner of next door’s Dark Carnival Sci-Fi & Fantasy bookstore stepped in to keep comics in Berkeley alive.

About The Name: The Escapist
The store was named after the comic book character created by the heroes of Michael Chabon’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. Mr. Chabon, who lives close by, is a longtime friend of the comic book community.
