Event Details

The Small Show features the small art works of Everett Alatsis, Katinka Hartmetz, Shang Ma, Tim Scott and Susan Skelly displayed in a comfortable living room environment. All art in The Small Show is 10 inches or under (with some as small as two inches), allowing you to fill in the spaces in your home and your life that are asking for new art. Come in and have a seat and enjoy the art! The show opens Wednesday, August 5th and runs through Sunday, September 6th. The Main Gallery, located at 1018 Main Street in Redwood City, will be hosting a free opening reception with the artists on Saturday, August 8th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Fine art photographer Everett Alatsis enjoys looking for patterns in what others may consider commonplace. “Rather than seeing what is just ahead, I take in a situation by looking up, down, and in all directions in search of the best shot. I take note of geographical shapes buried in architecture and images reflected in puddles” resulting in photographs that are both graphical and familiar, bold and soothing. For The Small Show, Everett alters the perspective in his image “Barcelona” by shooting large scenes in a micro-scale to tease the senses.

To capture the theme of small, mixed media artist Katinka Hartmetz is showing her Art Boxes along with mixed media mirrors and paintings. As with all art in this show, her whimsical pieces are all 10 inches or smaller, and some make use of her beloved colorful Day of the Dead theme.

Fine art painter, Shang Ma focuses on the state of existence in his figurative oil paintings. “The colors I choose depend on my expression of each individual figure. They range from highly saturated and high contrast to more muted and subtle variations.”

Photographer Tim Scott represents the delicateness of wildflowers in “Enfleurage” by experimenting in-camera with different optics to alter the look. “I strive to not just reflect life and the forms around me but to interpret them. Most of my photographs are born out of times of exploration, not just into other cultures or locations, but also within the context of daily life.”

Photographer Susan Skelly’s “A Putt Before Time” invites you to imagine the merging of a whimsical pre-historic world with our own. “In my photography, I focus on the small details that make up the experiences that I have had. Each of my photographs tells but a small part of a singular moment in time experienced by myself, alone or with others.”

Be sure to experience The Small Show at The Main Gallery, an artists’ cooperative with some 20 members, showcases the work of some of the best local talent in the Bay Area. The Gallery is located at 1018 Main Street at the corner of Main and Middlefield in the historic yellow Victorian cottage in Redwood City.
