2019 Architecture & the City Festival | SF

The 16th annual month-long celebration features behind the scenes and walking tours, films, exhibitions, lectures and more that address varying aspects of the design and planning process.

This years festival theme, “We the City”, aims to explore how cultural diversity and connectivity inspire and inform the built environment. From the Dogpatch to the Outer Sunset — San Francisco is a unique, diverse, and multi-generational mosaic.

The joys of play and of playing with architecture and film are celebrated in this year’s Architecture & The City Festival film series, which includes documentaries and animated shorts from local and international filmmakers.

This short animated series about the life of architect Archibald and his daily struggle with colleagues, clients, contractors, critics and more is a hilarious and affectionate observation into the life of all architects.

Me and My Moulton, Director: Torril Kove
A seven-year-old girl asks her unconventional parents for a bicycle. But what kind of bike can you expect from a father who sports the only moustache in town and a mother who makes dresses out of curtain fabric? The perils of having modernists for parents.

Bless You, Director: Phillip Watts
A funny and animated re-telling of Godzilla run amok through a city.

Plan of the City, Director: Joshua Frankel
The architecture of New York City blasts off into outer space and resettles on Mars. This stunning film includes animated collage, live action footage, and photos taken by the Mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity.

Films are free, but an RSVP is required.
