CANCELED: East Bay Burner Social | Oakland
> EVENT UPDATE: This event is no longer taking place.
East Bay Burners are a group of Burning Man devotees who all live around the East Bay and get together monthly to talk, exchange ideas, teach, learn and have fun.
The East Bay Burner Social takes place monthly in the run-up to the festival and features a different speaker or topic of discussion each time. The group is a great way to meet new Playa friends, or if you’re a beginner, to figure out what Burning Man is all about.
The East Bay Burner Socials are family friendly (kids welcome) wheelchair accessible, and to facilitate discourse, don’t have loud music.
In 2006, an art car appeared at Burning Man unlike any other. The Neverwas Haul, a 3-story Victorian house on wheels that not only defied logic and reason, but also captured the imagination of a burgeoning movement called Steampunk to become an overnight icon. Now 10 years later she has a following that extends around the world and has become the flagship of Obtainium Works and its fleet of crazy contraptions.
Come join the brains behind Obtainium Works for an evening of imagination and exploration as they discuss their adventures in mutant vehicle fabrication and their successes in television, children’s education and the art renaissance in Vallejo. Obtainium Works will be bringing a number of their mobile creations including the Pirate Airship, the Chimera Big Wheel, the Mechanical Horse and the Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang car.
They are also excited to have Temple of Promise architect Dan Swain speak. Dan will be giving the first showing of his proposed 2017 Temple design. Plus fun games, fine food and gravity defying frolicking, it’s the March East Bay Burners Social.
