Youth aged 8 to 15 and their families are invited to participate in the Presidio of San Francisco’s first annual Children’s Summer Solstice Bird Count, Saturday, June 11, from 9am to 2pm at the newly renovated Rob Hill Campground.
Kids and their families will join birders from around the Bay Area for training in the use of binoculars and bird identification basics. They will then depart the campground in teams and follow different routes throughout the Presidio.
After an easy two-hour walk counting observed birds, the groups will return to the campground to tally their numbers while eating lunch with their teammates. The day will be topped off with presentations of the numbers—by the kids. Participants should dress in layers, bring a lunch, snacks and water. Also, bring binoculars if you have them. Binoculars will be available to borrow for the day.
Space on this event is limited so please RSVP to Pete Bidigare, pbidigare@presidiotrust.gov or 415-561-2730.
