April 4, 2016: Local + Sustainable 2.0: The Evolution of the Sustainable & Local Food Movements

Over the last decade, there has been a massive change in how we think about what we eat. We now know eating local and sustainable food is better for us, our communities, and the food system in general. The Bay Area hosts a plethora of farmers markets; grocery stores now boast local produce, and we all want to know exactly where our food comes from. A lot has happened in the last several years. ‘Big Ag’ has been exposed and growing pressure from consumers has caused ‘Big Food’ companies such as General Mills and Tyson to make changes regarding GMOs and antibiotics.
Advances are being made but where are we now? And, how does technology come into play as we enter Local + Sustainable Food 2.0?

Join us for an enlightening evening as we seek to answer questions such as:
*Why does local matter?
*Is sustainable the priority when local isn’t available?
*What does “commitment to sustainability” mean?
*How transparent is our supply chain and what needs to improve?
