Snow Hit San Jose’s High Peaks This Morning

Thanks to SF Gate for letting us know that the Lick Observatory atop Mt. Hamilton in San Jose received a light dusting of snow on Monday morning.

Mt. Hamilton, which is the Diablo Range in Santa Clara County as a peak of 4,265 feet and is the site of the Lick Observatory, the world’s first permanently occupied mountain-top observatory dating back to 1888.

Snow isn’t unusual. Annual snowfall on Mt. Hamilton averages 17.7 inches. The most snowfall in a year ever recorded was 59.0 inches  in 1955.

No more snow is forecast until January 5th. See the weather forecast for Mt. Hamilton
